Welcome to Southern Humorists'
Information & Terms of Service

These are the FAQ's & Expectations for Members of Southern Humorists

HELP!  How do I turn it off?

1.  If you receive too much email from the YahooGroup discussion list... Don't unsubscribe! You can easily change  to "Digest" form (one big email per day).  Go to --- or contact the moderators and we will be glad to change it for you.

2. This is our Website right here:

All members are encouraged to contribute articles to the website to promote their work. You can also post a picture and a short bio. Send columns to the webmaster with express permission to republish. [email protected]

3.  You can promote your Books, appearances, contests, blog, website, newsletter, articles or whatever you have going that is related to writing humor.  Individual projects may be posted on your column page. We have a special page on the website to promote member's books.

4.  If you have a personal website, you can have a link on our Links Page.  You can also link a blog or the link for your mailing list instead.  The webmaster is absent minded, so remind her if she forgets.

The Dixie Dispatch

5.  We have an email Ezine for the public which is published periodically.  It has a different theme each time that will be announced on the discussion list.  This is another opportunity to publicize your work, and we hope you will contribute.  Re-prints are accepted.

Got  Friends?

6.  If you have Friends who are good candidates for membership, please drop us a hint and we will invite them. We even accept danged Yankees, as long as they stay downwind.

7.  If you have Technical Difficulties or any questions, feel free to email the moderators.  They won't know how to help you,  but it makes them feel useful.

We have a few Terms of Service
(Of Course!)

1. RESPECT your fellow members. Moderators will not tolerate anything but the utmost respect for your peers. Whether you are new to humor writing or a seasoned veteran --- your fellow members deserve your respect.

2. Obey Copyright Law. Do not post entire works of another without their permission. Plagiarism (claiming another’s work as your own) will not be tolerated -- period.

3. Important - DO NOT post the anonymous jokes that circulate the net.  We all get them, and sometimes we even wrote 'em.

4.  Profanity has it's place - mostly in other discussions.   Use it sparingly.  Excessive vulgarity falls in this same category.  Please don't embarrass us.

5.   Spam will NOT be tolerated either on or off the list. If you are here for the express purpose of promoting some commercial venture, climb the closest tree. We train our huntin’ dogs by dragging spammers in front of them.

(You are welcome to promote the heck out of your books, personal appearances, columns and other publications, however. )

Practice Good Netiquette

6.   Please Do Not "Cross Post" the exact same message to several newsgroups or "Subscribe" the entire newsgroup to your newsletter or column, regardless of how funny it is.

7.  Posting of your Column occasionally for comments or critiquing is fine.

8.  Please Trim Posts and do not re-post the entire post you are replying to. This is especially important to remember if you are on digest. If you simply hit "reply" and start writing, you may re-send the entire digest, and the rest of the members will turn you into roadkill.

7.  Be Discreet  - What is said in the group should stay in the group. What is said privately should stay private.

8.  Please do not trash other YahooGroups no matter how stupid they are. We would not like them talking bad about us, so we need to extend the same courtesy.

Have  Fun!

9.  Discussion groups only work when members participate. If you are a humorist, you probably have plenty to say, and we’ll be sorry we mentioned this.

A good way to begin is by introducing yourself or posting some of your writing.

Thank you again for joining the Southern Humorists at YahooGroups.  We look forward to knowing you better!

Your Moderators ~

Angela, Sheila, Ben, Leeuna
